We picked up our LE2 last Wednesday, Dec 8, and took 3 days to return home (near San Antonio, Tx). We had a great trip; weather turned out better than forecast. Really impressed with the camper thus far, and it tows great! Here is a picture an Oliver employee took. I intended to post this on delivery day, but I never could get additional photos to attach right side up (what’s the secret?). Frank7 points

We have the 5 sided Clam, brown with the tan top. We also have removable side panels which work great in cold weather. We put our Outlander fire pit in the middle and the Clam stays warm even in cold weather. We can easily fit 6, 8 if we get real friendly. It is not too big for me to handle alone and fits in our truck bed end to end.5 points

The only warranty work we had done was the replacement of the furnace’s motor, which we had done by a certified Moble RV repair guy while in FL. We paid the bill, and Oliver reimbursed us. It was a very simple process. I would recommend being in touch with Oliver throughout the process so they know what’s going on… in our case, it was impossible to remove the furnace from the outside as the hole through the Hull was too small to do so ( they must install them from inside) which resulted in us needing to enlarge it….. resulting in unexpected labor charges. I discussed this with Oliver and they paid for those as well . The real question surrounding warranty work is the availability of qualified ( certified ) technicians in your area. Where we live there aren’t a lot of options, which led me to repair things that would have been covered by the warranty myself… that being said, none of those projects were on the scale of replacing the guts of the furnace. If anyone ever needs something worked on in their Ollie in the Venice Fl. area I can’t recommend Mike Leger highly enough. Our furnace project was a complicated one and involved a fair amount of troubleshooting and head scratching to work out what the actual issue was. I was really impressed with Mike’s methodology and ability to figure out what the problem was… while having never worked on an Oliver before he has been doing RV repair for many years and it showed.. Mike’s company is Second Home Repairs Inc which offers only moble on-site RV service. 941-234-6196. We ran into a number of folks ( including friends from home) who had worked with Mike before and they all were as positive about their experiences as we were…4 points

We have the Clam Sky Escape Shelter which is one of the larger ones. It's 6 sided, measures 12x12. It is fully netted on all sides and top so you can see out to the night sky. It comes with the wind/rain walls, a rain fly top and a floor. You can use it in any combination. We have the shortbed F250 with the 6.5' bed and it fit straight in. We camped over Thanksgiving weekend with our grown kids & grandkids. 11 of us in all. On Saturday it rained from noon until 1am for 13 hours straight without stopping. It was great to have the shelter. We were able to fit everyone inside in chairs for dinner and during the day we had a smaller table set up for the kids to play games. It can be used over a picnic table easily without the floor installed. When the weather is nice we don't put any of the sides or top on and just use the netting to keep the bugs out.2 points

Bill, we had site #1, which they gave us, but the young lady did say we were the only ones in the park so we could have had our pick. It was level side to side, but sloped downward front to back. My hitch ball was at 25” unhooked, and I believe the truck squatted at least 1.5” from the LE2’s tongue weight, so it should have been level. However the trailer was nose high on hookup, so I got service to reverse the ball (from .5” lift to 2” drop, so a 2.5” total drop), which appears to have made the trailer almost level (judging from the bubble level on the LE2). There may be a slight nose down attitude. Camping was great—very quiet and convenient. Allowed us to have service over on the hitch adjustment and me to ask a couple other questions. Frank2 points

We are adding some art to our showroom and would love your help! We are looking for landscape pictures of the Legacy Elite and the Elite II in different seasons and locations. If you would like to submit a photo or photos (high resolution) to be reviewed and possibly chosen to be displayed in our showroom, please email them to cdavis@olivertechnologies.com.2 points

Yep, the iPhone photo problem seems to be that there’s info in the photo that says which way is up, but the forum software apparently doesn’t check. If I remember right, the ‘trick’ is to use the edit function on the phone to rotate the photo 360 degrees and save it.2 points

We’ve had several warranty things done locally and reimbursement by Oliver was not an issue. We have a local repair shop here that does work on several Oliver’s, one a 2008 Elite that he’s been servicing for a long time. Mike2 points

2008. Because, it was the beginning. (And coincidentally, my trailer 😄) Every year is good, imo.2 points

Our is a 2020 (#676) and I am glad we were able to individually select options, rather than choosing packages. I'm also glad we were able to select colors/graphics. We did not have the lithium option, however.2 points

The Veterans Express is about 2 miles west of us. So we take it north or south, going or coming to/from US 98. 98 to 19 and it’s usually clear sailing from Crystal River. If we are heading up the east coast then 301 comes into play after 75 to 326 north of Ocala. Although I like Georgia State Parks in general, they are expensive. So North Florida camping at 50% off have my attention. And of course US 41 is an option, it was all we had before I-75, when heading to Illinois to visit Gramma and Grampa. I thought about posting this question some time ago. What was the best year trailer that Oliver produced? This is a good post for this discussion. If you look back at options that where available. Upgraded options that Oliver made standard. Suspension etc. and all the items all of the above members mentioned. Interior extra 110 outlets etc. not to mention the last year before special requests on upgrades before Oliver went to package items. My guess would be the 2019 model year in my opinion. There have been a lot of changes that I followed all for the good to make Oliver one of the best mfgs out there and they will only get even better over time.2 points

The 4 sided Clam is great for 1 or 2. Three is a crowd and 4 can fit but you are going to be knee to knee. Yes, wind/rain panels can be had for the 4 sided model. Another benefit to the 4 sided model is that it will fit in the Oliver closet - the larger models will not fit in there. Of course, the larger model can not only fit more people but in many instances it can be placed over a picnic table if need be. These days there are Clam models that have floors in them too. Good luck! Bill p.s. Clam is a company that is very much like Oliver - if you have a problem, they will fix it.2 points

BTW I also tow with a 2018 V8 F150 SCREW 4WD with a "tow package". I added the stock Ford trailer brake controller (max tow package !). You'll need this or an aftermarket TBC if your tow package doesn't include it. I have no problem with payload (1960 lbs), power, etc. I get 22+ mpg as my daily driver without trailer. With the trailer I get ~ 13/14 mpg in rolling piedmont foothills type topography. It drops to ~ 10/11 mpg in mountains of Vermont/New Hampshire, etc. So your gas tank capacity may be a consideration. I have passengers that have less capacity than my gas tank!2 points

I believe either Reflectix or something very similar. Mylar wrapped bubble wrap vs foil covered foam. Maybe someone with a recent model can verify.1 point

Something else I thought of - didn’t Oliver switch insulation type and thickness for the 2020 models?1 point

Which cars will be left in the dust by next year’s 3G shutdown? Smartphones are getting faster, but some older cars may lose service forever. My LC200 is affected, but I have never even used any of those features, having bought it used. My brand new 2022 Acura is not on the list, but if I had bought a new 2021 car it would have required a wireless update to keep it operating. John Davies Spokane WA1 point

Pete, @bugeyedriver, told me about this shop. Boerne is a small town but with several mega RV dealers with repair shops. Our shop is very small, husband/wife operation and they do great work.1 point

Gee - I wonder which Ollie that might be? Has Bosker been breaking things? 😁1 point

A local shop that is not familiar with Oliver may insist that you pay for the repair as opposed to dealing directly with Oliver Service. Make sure that you get receipts and make sure that Oliver Service is kept in the loop from start to finish and you will have zero issues. It also helps to try to get your local service shop to be in touch with Oliver Service for technical help. Many times Oliver will be able to give the local tech "hints" as to how to either approach a particular problem or fix it entirely. This saves time and money for all parties. Finally, don't be surprised that a service call takes a bit longer than you expect - once these guys get into the guts of the Oliver they usually ask their buddies to come over and take a look at how things are done in the Oliver world. "Home is where you park it"? Glad everything worked out for you. I saw in this morning's paper that today's high temp in Hohenwald is forecast to be 63 degrees and sunny. Not bad for December 13th! Nice looking Ollie (aren't they all?) - it did take me a moment to figure out what that "new ducting" was on the top though 😊. RE the flipped photos - my guess is that you are using an Apple product to take those photos. If that is the case then I trust that another Forum member that uses Apple will chime in here with the secret. Until then - go ahead and post you photos and one of the Moderators will flip them for you via an external photo editing program. Bill1 point

We went sideways for a few years. I just figured how to pack around it! We’ve found we use the clam much more in cool/cold weather. It goes up quick and comes down quick. Mike1 point

When I am heading north or south on US 98 to or from the Oliver rally at Guntersville Lake State Park or Huntsville for dog test, I like to stay at Falling Waters, Torreya or Three Rivers State Parks in Florida or Eastbank COE campground near Bainbridge, GA. If I’m in a hurry I will head for White Oak Creek, a COE campground just south of Eufaula, AL when heading north. And the Cracker Barrel near Montgomery, AL is very friendly to overnight guest and the garbage truck comes through about 5AM giving me an early start. I'll try any road as long as it keeps me off of I-75. Mossey1 point

I know that by the time I picked up my trailer that they had jigs for making up wiring harnesses, but that was late 2017 so it could have been another change that they made during the year. I think late 16 and early 17 were big learning years for them as they added a second production line and worked on their efficiency due to a big jump in demand (hi, Buzzy!).1 point

If you are purchasing a new trailer have you considered getting the Andersen hitch from Oliver. Most folks that I am aware of have purchased the hitch with their trailer. Oliver installed ours and also fit it to our Tundra. This included adjustments for height an proper tension. This was part of our delivery. Enjoy your new Ollie.1 point

Nick & Linda - I saw your post above earlier this morning but thought that someone here would chime in if they understood exactly what you were asking or trying to do because certainly I do not. I assume that you already know that the Oliver comes with a Bulldog hitch when delivery is made. The standard hitch comes set up for a 2 inch ball but (for extra coin) you can "upgrade" to a 2 5/16 ball. When setting up your tow vehicle prior to delivery the distance from level ground to the top of your tow ball should be about 23 1/2 inches. I apologize if this information is no where near what you were trying to ask. Bill1 point
-
If you are towing with a Ford F-150 then you will be required (by Ford) to use a weight distribution hitch - this same requirement is in place for all other manufacturers of 1/2 ton trucks. Unless you are prepared to do a fair amount of modification to your Oliver, you will need to use the Andersen - the only one of these types of hitches that is compatible with the Oliver. Bill1 point

Hi Nick, there are many here with much more experience and knowledge than me but, for what it's worth, I'll share my experience. I was lucky enough to find a used 2020 LEII a year ago. I bought a 2021 Silverado 1500 3.0 diesel to tow it. The consensus is that a 3/4 ton truck is "best" but your V8 F-150 will do just fine. As Mike said, the Oliver tows very well. That said, I always use the Anderson WD hitch. You mention a Curt hitch but don't know if you are getting the Anderson when you pick-up but I think this is a must with your F-150. I towed mine about 2k miles this season and always felt comfortable. The 7 foot width of the Oliver is also a plus when it comes to towing -- especially when you find yourself navigating through freeway road construction with concrete barriers tight to each side! We've loved our Ollie so far and you will too. 2020 LEII, 2021 Silverado 1500 3.0L Duramax 4x41 point

Nick, it would be helpful to know what you will be towing with. I towed my LEII with at Tacoma, two half tons and now a 3/4 ton. All were different, each with different considerations. In general, Olivers are very well behaved. I’ve never experienced any sway with any of my trucks, even in wind being passed by big 18 wheelers. Mike1 point

Not one single thing to complain about, Thus far its everything I expected and more. Tows like a dream behind the One-Ton (no anderson hitch just a 2-5/16 Ball.) My tongue weight is 610 Lbs. Fresh Water Tank is Full rest empty. My Hitch provides the actual weight on the spot. I can imagine others have a much higher tongue weight as I am single and pack very light in comparison to most. I do have two 15 gallon water jugs in the front box that I bought filled and strapped there to increase the tongue weight because at 490 Lbs. (This was the exact weight when I pulled it out of the factory and for the first 500 miles before I put any of my stuff inside of it) I was feeling a bit more feedback from the trailer than I appreciate and I figured the additional weight would change its attitude. It did and having the extra water along is a plus until I hit cold country next week then I may change them out for a couple sand bags. Before JD tells me the front box is only rated for 150 Lbs... I know... Its fine and I will beef it up before my next trip. I will post a couple pics when I get better service or home I think this Weigh Safe hitch may be something others find helpful especially if your in a situation where tongue weight is critical due to your tow vehicle. A quick google of "weighsafehitch" and you will be looking at it. I can attest to the fact that it works well and is much faster then finding and weighing on a CAT scale at a truck stop especially if your experimenting with different weights to find your comfort zone. At any rate Props to Oliver for building a quality product in a time when that is not so common anymore and I was very impressed with their staff and how I was treated by them on my pick up day. They are all working hard to push these units out the door but they are doing it with Grace and I appreciate that a lot and they deserve the credit for it. I have attended three Nascar races in a row now (I did not have the Oliver yet for the first two) and will be dry camping in the infield of Kansas City Speedway this weekend, this will be my first time dry camping and I am sure I will exceed the tanks capacity but they do have service running there to pump and fill so I am REALLY not dry camping but I will give it a go and see how long I can get by.... Trouble is that insta hot water heater works very well and it only takes a handful of showers to top off the grey when the water does not get cold. Oh, and the towel hooks somebody was hating on in their blog? they work perfectly, my towels have not fallen off in over a thousand miles and I doubt they ever will but you DO have to know how to hang the towel properly on this style hook..... thanks Grandma for that lesson years ago! Happy Trails Everyone, From Guthrie Oklahoma... For Now...1 point

Congrats and great to hear you seem to be having the same experience we have had with # 927. We too got the 2-5/16 coupler as an option - but with one problem - it pulls so great, I forget it's there 🤪 Keep on enjoying!!1 point

I bet it would be possible to put the microwave in your unit. However, there certainly would be challenges. High Pointe makes a variety of units. The question is would you be happy with the final appearance? I believe the unit requires a deeper 'hole' so that you would have to build out an adapter plate on the front to hide the hole cutout. Also it would have to be strong enough so the micro doesn't float out going down the road. Also I wonder if additional supports would be required inside the hole and how that would be secured? Then there is the question of whether or not your batteries can provide enough power when boondocking. Maybe it would be time to trade your unit in for a new one?1 point
-
Obviously everyone is thrilled with the overall package, myself included. However, as an option to new owners, they could have a different unit available. Just think in a year we could be reading a thread just like this showing the company’s/customer favorite option. An AC unit that is dramatically quieter that uses a lot less power. Thus allowing a full blown lithium upgrade to really shine. Make the option $2k and customers will still gladly pay IMO.1 point

Went down to the Wind River Range in Wyoming the 3rd week of July and just now finishing up with photos from the trip. We camped one night the Grand Canyon of the Snake River which by the way is a drop dead gorgeous canyon with some nice USFS campgrounds although close to the road. From there we headed down to the Green River Lakes area in the northern part of the Winds. Had crystal clear blue skies and no fire smoke until the last day. Great hikes beautiful country just an awesome trip. For anyone inclined to take this on be forewarned there is 20 or so miles of very rough gravel road to get back in there, no cell service for at least an hours drive out. Figure about 15-20 mph going in with a few patches of smoother gravel for a few but not many miles. To provide an idea of how rough the road is, we shook 3 of the window frame shades of their mounts, the solar controller in the basement became dislodged from its installment screws, one of the cables for the pins that latch the rear bumper broke loose. Anything not tied down was strewn all over the camper. I'm probably forgetting a few things. Trudi and I had briefly visited this place some 40 years ago and its been on my bucket list ever since. Highly recommended, I would go back in a heartbeat. Regarding true boon docking there are many places along the Green River to accommodate and initially this was our plan until talking with another family who tried it for one night but the bugs and ants were so bad they couldn't even get out of their camper, a Lance in this case. With those words of encouragement we opted for the USFS campground @$6 per night for the geezer crowd. By any measure the vast majority of campers here are tent campers, and the new rage of clamshell tents that carry on top of trucks, suvs and fold out into a top mounted tent. There are two loops here, one small higher the other a bit large and closer to Green River Lake. No reservations, its far too remote and in fact never saw a ranger and there was no camp host at all for the entire week. No problem at all getting a good site and most people only stay one or two nights. BTW the lake and campground itself are approximately 8,000 feet elevation give or take a few. Posting a few quick and dirty iPhone photos below. Green River camp above. Most of the sites here are very large probably between 1/4 or perhaps 1/2 an acre on average. Campsite at the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. Green River Lake sunrise with Sqaure Top Mountain. Preferred a b&w for this one. Beach at the far end of Green River Lake, about a 2-3 mile hike one way, we did the complete loop around with a few other excursions for a total of about 8-9 miles View from the west shore of the lake returning from hike up Clear Creek Canyon Clear Creek approximately half way to the end of the canyon where a natural bridge crosses the creek. Another view of Square Top on the route out from Clear Creek. I was nursing a plantar fasciitis one one foot this day so the almost 12 mile hike just about did me in. We had a few outrageous sunsets accompanied by a rising near full moon. Thanks for looking.1 point

PMG. That is really cool and thanks to John for the link for info. I have two Irish ideas written down for our trailer. Delivery September 2021. It was great to see it on back which I hadn’t seen. Thanks for the inspiration. Mike1 point

Thanks for sharing that John. Indeed this is our white horse 😉. We had printed that for our camper binder / log book also. We are towing through the hills of Tennessee and Kentucky with a 2021 Ford F 150 5.0L V8 coyote engine and doing well so far. Our biggest challenge has been getting the Anderson hitch hooked up - it’s more sensitive to lining up than we anticipated.1 point
