  1. @Boudicca908, you do, indeed, have some stuff to do, but I'm sure you'll get it done. I think you said you're in SW Florida. As you're looking at campsites for the return "trek home," I'd suggest looking at the route from Hohenwald going through Dothan, Alabama, and then on, and compare. The traffic and scenery through Alabama, vs going through Atlanta (which we truly try to avoid) is much nicer, especially if you can drive through Birmingham on the weekend. The trip from Hohenwald to Tampa, for example, is about 6 miles and roughly 20 minutes longer via Alabama than via Atlanta, and much prettier, and less stressful, imo. More small towns, less true interstate, more limited highways, and we see a little bit of the beautiful farming country of the south. Plus, you can stop and see the Saturn rocket at the rest area near Huntsville. 😊 (Everyone tends to thinks first about Houston ground control and Cape Canaveral when they think of the space program, but Alabama folks were an integral part of getting us to the moon. And, five women who were Alabama space camp grads went on to become astronauts. ) Whatever you do, plan to spend several days near Hohenwald, to try absolutely everything. Leave a cushion in reservations if you need to have anything tweeked. You won't be disappointed camping in Tennessee in spring for a few days. My favorite seasons there are spring, and fall. Honestly, camping in Tennessee is wonderful, and if you have the time, explore several parks. Their state park system is a joy, imo. You should find plenty of availability in TN in late March/early April. Florida, not quite as easy.

For all the relative newer members out there - Buzzy is/was a much loved owner of an Elite II that did a series of YouTube videos at a time when there was no Oliver University nor virtually (almost) anything out there on the internet about the Oliver campers. Unfortunately due to a number of things those videos are no longer available. Hopefully Buzzy will see this and get a chuckle. Bill

  3. BTW I also tow with a 2018 V8 F150 SCREW 4WD with a "tow package". I added the stock Ford trailer brake controller (max tow package !). You'll need this or an aftermarket TBC if your tow package doesn't include it. I have no problem with payload (1960 lbs), power, etc. I get 22+ mpg as my daily driver without trailer. With the trailer I get ~ 13/14 mpg in rolling piedmont foothills type topography. It drops to ~ 10/11 mpg in mountains of Vermont/New Hampshire, etc. So your gas tank capacity may be a consideration. I have passengers that have less capacity than my gas tank!

When I am heading north or south on US 98 to or from the Oliver rally at Guntersville Lake State Park or Huntsville for dog test, I like to stay at Falling Waters, Torreya or Three Rivers State Parks in Florida or Eastbank COE campground near Bainbridge, GA. If I’m in a hurry I will head for White Oak Creek, a COE campground just south of Eufaula, AL when heading north. And the Cracker Barrel near Montgomery, AL is very friendly to overnight guest and the garbage truck comes through about 5AM giving me an early start. I'll try any road as long as it keeps me off of I-75. Mossey

  11. For that health reason, and your inability to recharge underway, so probably deep cycling constantly, I can certainly understand your early replacement. I just wouldn't want Oliver owners to think that 3 years was the life span of agm batteries, for their trailers, if properly maintained/charged.

  13. We have the 5 sided Clam, brown with the tan top. We also have removable side panels which work great in cold weather. We put our Outlander fire pit in the middle and the Clam stays warm even in cold weather. We can easily fit 6, 8 if we get real friendly. It is not too big for me to handle alone and fits in our truck bed end to end.

  14. The 4 sided Clam is great for 1 or 2. Three is a crowd and 4 can fit but you are going to be knee to knee. Yes, wind/rain panels can be had for the 4 sided model. Another benefit to the 4 sided model is that it will fit in the Oliver closet - the larger models will not fit in there. Of course, the larger model can not only fit more people but in many instances it can be placed over a picnic table if need be. These days there are Clam models that have floors in them too.   15. I know that by the time I picked up my trailer that they had jigs for making up wiring harnesses, but that was late 2017 so it could have been another change that they made during the year. I think late 16 and early 17 were big learning years for them as they added a second production line and worked on their efficiency due to a big jump in demand (hi, Buzzy!).

  18. @SeaDawg -- the road less travelled has made all the difference! When I drive north from southwest Florida, I typically head inland and go "up the gut" as I like to say -- meandering on Rt 17 through the small towns of Arcadia, Zolfo Springs, Wauchula, Bartow (home of FL DOT), at which point I either stay easterly on 17 or hook westerly on 98; I always try to dodge I-4, "the beast" of metropolitan Orlando. Most of my treks to the west did not involve camping, but I seem to remember a nice park on the barrier islands (if not booked already) to the north of Crystal River. And I've camped at Manatee Springs several time in winter. I will begin to study that Hohenwald to Tampa jaunt, since most of Tennessee will be new to me. I've tent camped many times in western sections of Georgia and North Carolina, close to the Tennessee border, but didn't pay attention to the trailer access because tent camping is so easy I never thought about it (haha - the joke's on me). And I love your idea about booking something close to Hohenwald for a spell, as I break my brain into the flow of different habits and routines. This will be a totally new adventure, in so many ways!   19. We’re confident that the folks at Oliver are doing their best to keep deliveries on schedule. When we initiated our order in February, we were told our LE2 would be ready for delivery December 15. By the time we put down our production line deposit in September the delivery date had been moved up to November 29, so we made our travel plans accordingly. Oliver contacted us about a month before our trip with the news that #969 wouldn’t be ready until January 3 due to supply chain issues. We have to plan ahead for time off from work, so we hope this date is firm.

  22. Hey JIM I've been towing an Elite II with a gas 2016 Chevy Colorado. Have done so for about a year and have laid down about 6,000 miles. Towed over all the mountain areas (such as they are) on the eastern seaboard. I use an Anderson hitch and have had no problems. Have averaged around 13mpg as long as I don't add my kayaks to the roof of the TV. I never have had to fully stomp the gas to the floor and after tweaking the Anderson set up to match their installation guidelines, replacing my tires with ones rated to do the job and setting the air pressure to a more appropriate level then the amount suggested on the door jam sticker, have had zero issues. That said, I have a brandy new Ford eco boost 3.6L on it's way. My reasoning is simple: I feel there is not enough safety margin for emergency high speed maneuvers or enough power to handle going into the higher mountains found out west. I won't bore you with the tests I've run while on the road but am confidant in this move. The Ford has an 11,000lb tow capacity (can be up to 12.5k depending on other configurations) and plenty of payload capacity for myself, a passenger, couple of composite kayaks, roof rack system, TV bed full with camping gear and my dog. As this is my daily driver too, I am hoping it will be the best combination of decent mileage and more then appropriate capacity.

  23. Thanks to the OP for the question and all others for replies! Regards delay -- I placed my order last June, and received an email notifying me of a delay -- but it was only a 3-day delay. Reading this has lit a fire for me, because my delivery date is March 28th and I haven't even thought about reserving a camping spot for my trek home! I'm still trying to land the TV and I guess I need to be multi-tasking. :)

  24. Yep - I've got two of the same bath mats just for this reason. When one gets wet because someone (me) forgot to open the valve then I've got a spare while it dries or gets laundered.

  25. Hull #211 (2017 model [April pickup] ordered in Nov 2016 had a full size spare. My spare tire and rim matched the other 4 Michelins, at my insistence, as they were using up the last of the Goodyear tires with rims. Think the prior rims were different too. My upper cabinet doors are frosted by choice, with black and mirrored as options. My tv is mounted on the curbside, as they had not yet gotten permission from RVAC(?) to potentially block the escape hatch window. (If I drop shipped a mount and tv they would have centrally installed). My drawers are self closing, but will open on bumpy roads. (Retro fitted with a thin bungee after). The manual awning works just great, one less thing to go wrong. Keyed lock, as the keyless were having to be drilled out occasionally. Guess they must be a lot better now as haven't heard lately any problems.

  26. We are scheduled to pickup our LEII on 1/18/22. Our original delivery date was 1/7/22, however, we were notified 3-4 weeks ago of the new delivery date, caused by supply issues. I received a phone call from the assistant sales manager. This change did not cause us any particular problems. Actually, I view the new date as more desirable, being on a Tuesday, rather than Friday. Should we encounter any delivery issues, I would rather not have to wait over a weekend for resolution. Also, since we have a winter delivery, I had inquired how Oliver handled delayed deliveries. If memory serves, Oliver will store your trailer for 45 days at no charge. Beyond that there is a nominal charge. Your sales person should be able to provide details. Don

Kirk, We ordered our LEII last March with a delivery date of 2/1/22, there was a period a couple months ago that the date moved ahead to 1/24/21 but the supply issue moved it back to the original date. I wouldn’t worry too much about Oliver missing their commitment by more than a couple days tops. I would just contact them when you’re at your employer’s cut off for requesting a September vacation.   28. Sure enough. Kirk - While there is no telling the future - particularly in this strange current world of ours - if I were you, I'd place my chips on the date that Oliver gave you. I'd probably also send an email to my sales rep detailing the issues that would arise in the event of a missed delivery date. If something would happen by which either party could not deliver or take delivery on or very close to the original date then there would be a paper trail to a starting point from which proper fair settlement of any additional expenses (motels, shipping, costs of travel, storage, etc.) could be calculated.   29. Oliver was spot on the date they gave us which was October 21st of this year for Hull #924. I haven't heard anything on this forum about Oliver being being late or missing a delivery. If anything, they have been a early sometimes but if that is the case, they would notify you and you could possible make arrangements to still pick up your Oliver on the on the original delivery date. I am sure that if you explained your circumstances, they would work with you. That's the kind of the great company Oliver is. Carl

  30. My experience with our 2021 F150 3.5 EB / FX4 / max tow truck mirrors what TexasGuy is experiencing. We have maybe 10K on the F150 while towing our Oliver. Could not be happier with the truck ... a great match for the Legacy II.

  32. I have never found a fix for this. It is really not that much of a bother. When I go through my mail I just delete the notices. It really frustrated me at first, not so much because it was an inconvenience but because it was broken. I just hate things that don't operate as they should.

  33. Apologies if my comments were construed as a criticism of anyone's trailer, or of Olivers in general. Oliver makes two of the best RVs on the market, which is why we're selling our current fifth wheel and buying one. Likewise, the use of the word "cheap" in my final sentence was not intended as a criticism of the A/C quality, but of my theory that OTT may be able to source the Dometics for less money. But that air conditioner is loud. Louder than any of our previous RVs. That's not Oliver's fault, per se. The roof is lower, the space is smaller, and the A/C isn't ducted, so it's just... loud. It's a side effect of the overall design and construction. Still, it is a downside for those who will be camping in hot, humid climes. Is it a deal breaker? Not for us. Olivers have many other positives that outweigh the negatives. Even so, I can see where there might be potential customers who would consider it a deal breaker to not be able to watch TV at a comfortable volume with the A/C on. So, it would be nice if it could be addressed, even as an upcharge option.

  34. I want to restate that I love my Ollie. Out of the 5 campers I have owned over the years, this is hands down the best. I would not trade it for a different trailer manufactured in the US (or anywhere else for that matter). Yes I do not like the noisy AC unit but I have lived with it as it does work and does the intended purpose. I like that the Dometic controls which control both the AC and the furnace. I have not really camped in the deep south US so have not had to use the AC at night. Camping up North, I just use the AC in the late afternoon to cool down the trailer and then turn it off when going to sleep and use my fans. Works for me. Mossemi - Looks like you were kidding about selling your Ollie. Stay on the forum (not Facebook) as we like you ideas and opinions!

  35. I seriously doubt that. I have friends in the marine industry, with volume, maybe, 3 to 10 per cent. Pretty much across the board. Why? Because, seriously, they don't have to. There's a big market, and if you can supply, you don't have to cut price. I understand lots of folks wanting to make the best, even better. I get that. Some of us just wing it, and try rogue stuff on our own. If you actually need ac a lot, I commiserate. Virtually none of the readily available, standard ac options on rvs today are very quiet. We camp at altitude in heat. Or, live with the consequences. I'm with @mossemi. I happen to really enjoy my Oliver. Yes, we tweak from time to time. We're like that. Nothing changes my opinion, made 14 years ago, that our Ollie was the best choice, for us. Hopefully, we'll get to enjoy another 14 years.

  36. My wife and I have a 2022 Elite II on order for late summer delivery. The upgrades referenced in your post are much appreciated. We would be thrilled if you offered one more upgrade: a quieter air conditioner. A number of Oliver owners posting on this forum have replaced their stock Dometic Penguin II AC units with Houghton/Rec Pro or Coleman Mach 10 NDQ units. They report that these are MUCH quieter than the Dometic, which has been compared to a "lawnmower in your trailer" or even a "jet engine." If you can find a way to offer a quieter AC unit for a reasonable upgrade price, we want one! Ralph Pond

  37. Even with a ā€œ1/2 tonā€ pickup, make sure you understand and pay close attention to ALL the relevant ratings. There are specs for towing capacity, tongue weight (different capabilities with and without a weight distribution hitch), payload capacity (also called cargo capacity), GCWR (gross combined weight rating), etc. Even two of the same model trucks like an F-150 can have significantly different towing capabilities depending how it’s equipped. I have an F-250 which is generally classified as a ā€œ3/4 tonā€ truck, but mine as equipped from Ford is rated for up to 3,334 pounds of cargo, and 12,600 pounds of towing. So I can technically put more than a TON of weight in the pickup bed as cargo and still have payload to spare for tongue weight while towing my Ollie.
