  1. @Spike I know you have great faith in your RV service tech and I assume it’s the same tech that installed your solar and battery upgrade, so you should be confident in the work he has completed for you. But I also remember that he didn’t get everything right the first time, although he did get it right in the end with some help from the forum members. And he may have replaced an Oliver window before, but I doubt it. So just to be fair, I think it would be prudent to ask the folks at Oliver, who built your trailer about your water leak as they might have some inside knowledge about window installations in Oliver’s. Mossey These 2 links contain information on the subject of water leaks in the window area. The first link is provided by the Oliver Service team. The second link start out with my experience’s with a window leak, but others contributed their own. https://support.olivertraveltrailers.com/portal/en/kb/articles/window-maintenance

  2. I debated this pretty long.. came to the conclusion that I didn't want to clean another channel like the window gutters. I like the dam effect of the style I have. The rain seems to just channel to each end of the awning.

  3. My wife and I took delivery of Hull 990 on 2/17/22. There were very heavy rains in the area of Hohenwald the week we were there, or relatively nearby. The third or fourth night following delivery we were staying at David Crockett State Park, near Hohenwald. We discovered water was leaking in from the street side window by the bed, causing the cushion and bedding to get wet. We called Oliver Service and returned to Hohenwald for the problem to be addressed. We were notified our trailer was fixed and ready to go in slightly over 2 hours after dropping it off. When I inquired for details of the cause of the leak, I was told the window vendor had failed to apply butyl caulk to the fasteners in the window frame. OTT Service had applied butyl caulk to the fasteners and conducted a water leak test. This action appears to have addressed the issue, as we have not observed any further leaks around the windows. Oliver provided the service without charge to us, as a warranty claim. Don

  4. In our 2019 foray to Alaska, we found a campground that had a wash bay that you could use for free. In Mississippi the mosquitoes will eat me alive every evening. During our four month trip to Alaska, I didn't get bitten a single time. They were everywhere and lit on me often but apparently out of respect or perhaps fear of catching something from me they just moved on.

  5. They do have a really large rain simulator or giant Ollie wash/wet weather booth. We saw it during our factory tour in Jan of 2020. I don’t know if they had this back in 2017, If I had to guess I would say they surely must have. I can’t imagine that this critical and very important step would be by bypassed in production by Oliver regardless of the pace of production.

  6. We camped at State Forest State Park, Colorado a couple of weeks ago. It’s the largest state park in Colorado with multiple campgrounds and lots of dispersed sites. It’s just north of Rocky Mountain National Park and east of Steamboat Springs, so all the sites are at elevation. There is one campground that has 30a electric hookups, we didn’t see it so can’t comment. Our site was at 9,100’ and except for one night of torrential rain the weather was great, highs in the upper 70s and lows in the high 30s. All propane appliances worked as they should (furnace, hot water tank, cook top and Weber grill). State Forest State Park is in Routt National Forest. This is about 20 miles from our campsite. This is in Bockman campground. 9,100+ feet elevation. Dry camping but there were a couple of well maintained vault toilets. The Weber fired right up despite the elevation. Steaks in the Rockies can’t be beat. Orvis flannel required. This lake (can’t remember the name) was just a few miles from our site. There were a dozen or so camping sites around the lake, well spaced. I wish I would have done more research as they looked very nice. Still a little snow up there. Carol got good use of her flannel as well. Beats south Texas summer heat!!

  8. When we had leak problems, Debbie took a water hose and ran it above the areas of a suspected leak on the outer hull. I would watch inside with insulation pulled back in areas like the Oliver sign to find leaks. In the case of water coming out of the bottom of the rear window onto the curbside bed, found the water traveling from the Oliver sign, between the hulls on the rear window onto the bed. Since fixing two exterior leaks we towed Ollie through northern Texas and western Oklahoma when we ran into heavy rains (heaviest we have ever seen) and not one drop of water in Ollie's interior, a tornado passed later that day through Oklahoma. When the window is re-sealed and installed, I would not assume the issue has been corrected until testing with a water hose above and on both sides of the window area where there are holes in the outer hull to mount lights, brackets, exterior mounted fittings, and signs. I checked the Oliver sign closely for cracks or sealant separations where water could enter around the sign and could not find any issues, but it was leaking with the water hose test when we removed & resealed it. 9. They had a rain booth when Anita took us on a tour in the fall of 2015. I’m sure it’s in use but probably can’t duplicate an Arizona monsoon! Mike

  10. It's apparent there are two 'camps' of opinion on removing the awning seal. I, for one, make a living space out of the shade and invariably it will rain when I camp, so keeping that area dry is a high priority. I really like to keep runoff to a minimum and have found the seal to be pretty darn effective! Today, I replaced my deteriorated and flaking seal with a new 1" slide out seal. The leftover adhesive from the old was pretty easy to remove with 'Spray Nine' a cloth and a plastic razor blade. No heavy duty removers needed. It took maybe 30 minutes. My take is that you may have to replace it every five years or so, and I'm ok with that. Here's to DRY camping!

  11. To wrap this thread up from our perspective here is the final information. We reached out to OTT Service with a service request and Jason responded back that on our year trailer the ground on the 7pin trailer side used the tow vehicle. Jason explained how to test this by placing the multimeter ground wire on the aluminum frame of the trailer while testing, and we did, and we got an accurate battery reading. So this confirmed what he said was our setup. So at least we now know why the portable solar panel wasn't recognizing a battery being connected when it was plugged into the trailer 7pin. Thanks again to everyone who helped us with this!

  12. Here’s our experience. We visited Oliver last week and they had a new side window sitting out assuming ready for installation with grey tape around the window perimeter where the window frame flange contacts the outer hull. It looked like butyl tape. We have had leakage issues with the rear Oliver sign and a porch light above the windows with water traveling between the hulls leaking out of the the windows on our #75 LE2. These leaks were not window issues. Once we resealed the Oliver sign and porch light, that fixed the leaks. I would discuss this with Jason.

  13. Ouray is such a cool little town. (Except for the cottonwood, and the stickers attaching to the dogs' paws. We found hand sanitizer and facial wipes helped to soften them.) As I recall, the ridgeway park cg was closed still, when we were there, so we stayed in town at the 4j+1+1 cg. We had deer on the hill behind us every night. Walkable to a lot of stuff, but still very quiet. (And, a good laundry center in the park.) Are the swings still there at the brewery? First place I was ever served a can of wine. It was surprisingly decent. Not us on the swings... I don't have a photo of that.

  14. We run about 300 days a year and like to be outdoors. Everything from cycling to hiking and back country skiing. Out door gear takes up a ton of space. We also leave the trailer often and travel for the day. Having a fridge on board and food supply makes for good eats 💯

  15. Hi everyone This year our fiberglass gathering will be at the beautiful Lake Casitas, in Ventura county, October 20-24th 2022. We'll be camping in the BASS section.. Every year the BASS loop with partial hookups fills up right away so please make your reservation asap. The parks online reservation system is getting an over hall so calling is best for the dates you want. Lake Casitas RESERVATIONS: 805.649.1122 or reservations.casitaswater.org When you complete your camping reservation PLEASE email the following info to me. SITE# NAMES, FIRST AND LAST OF EACH PERSON IN YOUR PARTY EMAIL CITY, STATE RV, YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, LENGTH PHONES DATE IN DATE OUT MISC, PETS, ETC. This information is not shared by anyone and is used only for keeping track of who's in our group, notify you of updates and next year's gathering date. If at any time you want to be taken off our list please let me know. We're looking forward to another great fiberglass gathering. Maybe more so this year considering what we all have gone through since 2020. As many of you know, many have a compromised immune system. All I ask of each person joining our group is mutual respect during our gathering! I won't be a cop and take your temperature, ask how you are feeling, if you've been vaccinated or ask you to wear a mask. Only you know how you are feeling and what actions need to be taken to be safe and consider the safety of others. If you have any symptoms of not feeling well please pass on this gathering for the safety of all and we'll see you at our next campout. You may be missed now but loved later if you don't get anyone sick. Events that we usually plan for will go as scheduled, if folks set them up. All you have to do is email me with what you have in mind and a date and time slot you want. If you know of someone with a fiberglass rig that you think would like to join us, please pass this email to them. The more the merrier! Stay healthy. Take good care! Let's go camping! 16. Installation was easy. Hardest part was deciding where and how to mount vent fans. Used double sided VHB tape along with a long screw for added support on the upper fan and zip tied lower fan on vent panel. Would liked to have centered lower fan left to right but space constraints dictated mounting to the left.

  17. We’ve done highway 550 twice now from Montrose to Durango, towing. The first time was in mid-September and we had snow and/or rain at the higher elevations. It is exhilarating and beautiful at the same time. Many areas with no guardrail on the outside with a sheer drop off. We plan on going back next summer. The heat in south Texas is getting more undesirable every year and the cool mountain evenings and mornings are so pleasant. Mike

  18. I would really like to see some Oliver specific installation pics! Where did you attach the fans? I have always been worried about fire, it is more common when hooked up to 120 VAC, so I rarely use it for fridge operation. Even when plugged into shore power. But I worry, anyway. The fridge manual says it should be thoroughly inspected professionally ANNUALLY, which obviously nobody does. Especially since that requires its complete removal (most of the critical parts are completely inaccessible from the outside of the hull). I would love a compressor fridge but would l hate the extreme power usage😤 and I would also have to add another lithium battery to my two Battle Borns. OTH if there are a bunch more fans running with this mod, that is going to use more watts😳. I would think better of the Fridge Defend site if their grammar and spelling were not so bad, and if it did not seem so over-the-top “the sky is falling” in regard to fires. Thanks for more info on your Ollie mod. I would love some details. John Davies Spokane WA

  19. The road from Silverton to Ouray is called the million dollar highway. It's a bit scary,,but doable. (I'm the big chicken in the group. Height and motion sickness challenged, all of which apply. I made it. Nuff said. Both apply here in spades.) In good weather, it's not a bad drive. And, extremely beautiful.

  20. Jeff, I’d call Jason and see what he says. It does seem that there should have been a barrier. Since you haven’t had any problems with the other windows it might be safe to assume they are okay. Southern AZ monsoons are a good test. We’ve been in lots of rain and have not suffered any leaks and we’ve never had any of our windows removed. As Sherry said, it doesn’t seem to be a common problem. Mike

  21. Well, we haven't seen a rash of comments on this, so my "guess" is a one off issue. For which I am sorry, but, I do believe its an unusual situation. I'd open a service ticket, were it me. Photos would help. Leaks five years in could be difficult to trace. Spike's trailer is a 2017.

  22. I'm with you If and when our old seal dies, we'll replace it with same. In the east, we often can leave our manual awnings out, pitched, and get a nice patio in soft rains and our typically lighter winds. I'm on the "porch " now. Soft rain. No wind. It's pretty sweet.. All our trailers live big,, on the outside.

  24. @spike, I would contact Jason, as rideandfly suggested. I know Oliver didn't use butyl tape ordinarily, over the years.. They used different sealants, including silicon, which is often clear, and doesn't look like much. I'm old school, like your tech,,and I like butyl. Not everyone does, but I do.

  26. Ridgway State Park, CO just a couple of weeks ago. Warm days but overnight lows around 50, good sleeping weather. Visited Ouray (30 minutes away) and Telluride (50 minutes away). There are several campgrounds in the park, FHU to no HU, depends on what you want. Ouray Main Street. Telluride.

  27. Yes for sure. I love the old tech. Manual 4x4 also lol. The old Detroit never skips a beat and when it time we will replace it with the same motor but with the optimizer tweaks the US military has been using.

  28. Love the pipe cleaner idea and will use that whenever we're traveling. Had some issues with occasional small leaks from the windows myself while stored, but after a good track cleaning, and adding a piece of Saran Wrap on the window that also overlaps the window track, I've had zero problems. I think the biggest issue with Ollie windows is that small debris can get past that small gap between the outside rubber seal and the glass that eventually builds up to the point that where it blocks the weep holes. For me, the Saran wrap has solved that issue. Might start using a piece of window film instead for a solution that lasts longer and is reusable.

  30. We're getting close to the date that we can reserve our camp spot at the beautiful Lake Casitas in Ventura County. As soon as we can make a reservation I will post for you. Dates for our gathering this year will be October 20-24, give or take a few days. Save those dates and hope to see you there! Paula

  31. Curious if the caps "screw" in or do they simply slip in? Getting the cap on and off on my trailer is a two handed operation which is what I would like to mitigate with quick connects. Thanks, BTW: Eley are the absolute best!

  33. We have left our awning seal installed for same reasons. It rains often in the Southeast, daily this time of year. My trailer has drain channels in the awning brackets, so not too much stuff collects up there. I get up top periodically to clean the solar panels anyway, so no problem cleaning the ditch created by the awning. The new J-channel strip Oliver is using now looks like it might be an improvement. I look forward to reading some feedback on how well it works.

  34. I’m surprised this is happening? Doesn’t Oliver still have the booth that simulates heavy rain for thirty minutes to check for internal leaks? Maybe not, production may be moving to Quickly.

  41. I installed the system last year as an extra measure of safety. Added benefit are the 2 fans that come with it , one mounted in upper and lower outside vents. I opted for 2 additional interior fans that help keep internal temperature uniform. So far, so good. Fridge has operated flawlessly even in very hot weather.

  43. I decided to order these much higher quality Eley QC’s based on a recommendation from another member on here. Verrrrry nice and very high quality vs the aluminum Chinese junk sold on Amazon (above). These are made in the USA 🇺🇸 and top shelf. I would purchase these again based on the fit and finish and they come with a 10 year warranty. Order here if interested - https://www.eleyhosereels.com - Patriot
