  1. Yes, in which information technology is becoming disinformation technology. A lot of the content is in some ways no worse than what was on the National Enquirer front page on newsstands everywhere when I was younger but IT technology has supercharged the impact in ways that make this fundamentally different, I'm afraid.

  2. Super interesting trip down the rabbit hole. Really useful information so thanks to all on that. It's great to know that it is possible to run the AC on a 2200i converted to work on propane. Whew! Really didn't want to travel with a spare gas can that speaks only to the gennie and not to any other component. I did a bit of research this AM. A few interesting points that seem to apply: - Propane regulators are supposedly "self regulating" so will adjust by their working nature to changes in altitude automatically adjust for pressure differential between atmosphere inside the tank and ambient atmosphere. - Propane is actually a mixture of propane and butane. That ratio is changed in areas that offer seasonal mixtures with the winter mix having less butane. It seems that the butane ignites poorly in high altitude as it requires more air to burn well. The suggestions I saw were to purchase propane local or make sure you have a winter mix when going into altitude. - Same applies to cold with butane not doing well in freezing temps so, if winter camping, the winter mix will burn more efficiently. - Maintenance related issues can rear their ugly heads in both cold weather and high altitude. From what I read, a side effect of burning propane is the production of water. Supposedly, jet nozzles can get partially plugged with bit of rust so while burning good in optimal conditions, can fail in cold/altitude where they may have done fine if serviced - I ran into a few folks that claim the adjust their regulators to perform better in altitude. Adjust back when in lower altitude. Does anyone have experience with this?

  3. Unfortunately, Jetty Park campground was still closed (as far as I could see) for the historic launch this past weekend. Otherwise, we'd have tried to be there. For future launches, I've heard it's a great vantage point for launches from the spacecoast of Florida. (Most campgrounds have reopened in Florida, though. ) It's a really great feeling for those of us in Florida to see the success of this mission. For many years, I worked next to Honeywell plant 2, and we always took a break to watch the contrails of missions leaving the launch pad, across the state. Paul and I drove over to the other coast nine years ago to see the "last" shuttle launch from a parking place along the highway. It was magnificent, but also bittersweet. Next launch, I'd really love to be camped at Jetty Park. Hats off to our brave astronauts, and support crews, and innovators that have us back in space, launched from Florida. The Spacecoast is truly the Spacecoast, once again. Sherry

  4. Went out with the family to see if we could get lucky and see anything yesterday evening (it was clear). Had a great view of the rocket for 45 seconds or so here in the Chapel Hill, NC area. That was cool!!!

  5. I have been working on a Drop-Leaf design for another customer that would increase the size of the pantry countertop for serving and fold down for storage when not in use. Something similar could be done for the front edge of the dinette. I will post pictures once I have a prototype of the pantry drop-leaf.

  7. Something to be cautious about when comparing battery powered inverter solutions such as a Jackery vs. APC UPS is that they have different design goals and their labeling/marketing typically does a poor job in clarifying those goals. APC provides a runtime graph for the performance of the APC Smart-UPS C 1500VA under varying loads. At its max load of 900 watts, the graph indicates its runtime at 4.7 in minutes. Jackery indicates that the Jackery Solar Generator Explorer 1000 will power a 900 watt electric grill for 50 minutes. I found the APC Smart-UPS C 1500VA on Amazon for $377.54 and the Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 1000, 1002Wh Solar Generator for $999.99. So the APC UPS is 37% of the cost of the Jackery but with only 9% of the capacity at a 900 watt load. Still, considering all that, if what you have meets your needs then you've solved the equation but if you want to cook breakfast on an electric grill with the APC UPS you may need to consider having cereal instead. 🙂

  8. Jim, that is a big chunk of clarification. using the chocks on the non leveled side and, as Patriot does, using levelers that have a chock type aspect to them, like the Andersons, should do the trick. Thanks gents.

  9. WOW! If anyone ever gets a chance to be reasonably close to one of these launches then you simply must do it. Last night I mentioned to my wife that this launch looked and felt much like "Buck Rodgers". Unfortunately, at this stage of life driving a Formula One car and riding on a rocket are two things that will most likely not happen. Maybe I'll go for a motorcycle ride this afternoon. Bill

  10. Another historic and successful launch tonight! It was too cloudy for me to see anything from the back yard, but I watched it online at nasa channel. So proud of everyone involved, and especially the brave crew of 4.

  11. Most tvs and monitors use the standard Vesa mount, multiplrs of 100 x 100 mm. You may need to order an articulating mount ahead if time. I don't know what the selection will be like in Hohenwald . Walmart is about it for shopping in town. Something like this, maybe? https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Premium-Mount-Monitor-Stand/dp/B010QZCT5W Make sure you can return anything you order, as you're unsure of what will work til you get there.

  12. We have a compressor type, whole house dehumidifier in our home in Florida. I've not used a dehumidifier in the Oliver, yet. I was curious, too, about the difference between compressor vs dessicant dehumidifiers. Thus article was pretty informative. Dessicant type is more quiet (I'd like that, in the trailer), and more efficient in cool weather, below 15c/ 59 f, or so it says. https://www-andatechdistribution-com-au.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.andatechdistribution.com.au/a/s/blogs/news/desiccant-or-compressor-dehumidifier?amp_js_v=a6&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#aoh=16054442036917&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.andatechdistribution.com.au%2Fblogs%2Fnews%2Fdesiccant-or-compressor-dehumidifier

  13. Yes to your first question, the toilet will still need a cup or two periodically. Second question, we’ll see. I have the new unit set to reduce the H to 50% for now. A work in progress.

  14. I agree. The biggest downside to multiple methods of sharing with other Oliver owners, for me anyway, is trying to remember : did I see that on the FB group or was it the forum? I feel the Oliver Trailer Owners group admin does a great job of keeping members on task. However, you still have the FB platform to contend with.

  15. Technomadia's 2008 monitor and articulating mount.

  16. My guess is it's a height issue, restricting access to the emergency exit /rear window. The elite I has a few inches less interior height than a II. Pretty sure technomadia mounted a quite large monitor in the rear corner, back in the day. I'll poke around and see if I can find a photo.

  17. I guess a centrally mounted TV in the Elite 1 would restrict using the center (along the outside wall) dinette seat.

  18. Looks like the standard TV mount (24 inch tv) is in the corner. But, I'd still ask my rep. I don't know how old that photo is

  21. Nope. 😉 I was not going to reply to this because we have never pushed or even mentioned the FB page on the forum that I know of but feel I should say something. We have never intended to try to draw people away from the forum or anywhere else. We feel the FB group compliments the forum. People are constantly referred to the forum for additional information. FB definitely has its faults but is not a reflection of the FB Oliver Owners Group. It is not like most other FB groups and all members are screened before allowing them in. Not that a non owner or perspective owner could not get in but a lot of work is done by the moderators to make sure it is kept for just Oliver owners and prospective owners and about Oliver trailers. We decline a lot more people than we approve and are always on guard and remove anyone suspicious. All 5 of the moderators are also Oliver owners.

  22. Again... Not trying to compete... draw people away... split... from either the FB group or this forum. I see the different groups as having different aspects / strengths. The forums are awesome and I have received a LOT of help here, and given some back. The FB group is fun and has helped me to keep in touch with Oliver friends both old and new. The MeWe group is new so it remains to be seen, but I think it might be a good place for discussions for the Oliver OWNERS Community only. As to the moderation of the mewe group, people you know and trust are involved in the moderation. I plan to be active on all three platforms for as long as I own my Oliver. If mewe is not your cup of tea.. I understand. If you are judging mewe from the google article that John posted, I am not finding that to be representative of what I see on mewe. So, best wishes to everyone. Safe Travels. Happy Camping. Scotty

  23. I totally agree, I used to be in the information security business with IBM. After 10 years of avoiding Facebook (after IBM), I finally had to join so I could get information being shared for work. I use it for work only, I do not post, and I have a very restrictive account. I don't friend people, infact some of the crap facebook sends me just pisses me off. (Ok off my high Horse). I know that Oliver just like any other business with a web present is not secure. I will be staying here only for my Oliver information. I like this web site. It is friendly, full of knowledge, and supported by an honest business. I love the "internet introvert" comment.

  24. I worked in the information security industry before retiring a few years ago and Facebook still has a long way to go before they regain my confidence in their information security and data privacy policies. MeWe is very similar and and a newcomer to rival FaceBook. I'll wait and see quite a while before joining. I'm sticking to this forum. This is the only forum I have ever joined in my life (so far) because I see great value in the honesty and helpful tips everyone provides. I'm going to remain an "internet introvert". 🙂

  26. I have the rear floor register fully closed, the center one half closed and the bath register completely removed (wide open hole). Airflow appears to be adequate in front but the temperature is very low. Both the bath and closet are always cold. I keep the bath door wide open, and the bath ceiling vent open but not running the fan unless somebody is showering. Do you have this problem? Should I keep the bath vent closed? Please elaborate. I am trying to figure out if this is simply a poor design, with the heat source so far back in the cabin, or if my particular hull has a build problem. I am researching alternative heat sources for the front, to just help equalize the temperature. 27. Little late showing but time flies when your having fun. Spent 4 nights at David Crockett State Park and then 2 nights at Cloudland Canyon State Park in North Ga and the Ollie was great. 2020 Tundra really did a great job towing. Nice having the V8 on a few hills and didn't feel stressed at all. Only hiccup we had was leaving Davey Crockett the street side awning would not close completely. Came to about 1 inch on the front end from totally closing. We called Jason and dropped by service to check out the problem. Seems 2 acorns had fallen in the front track and was preventing it from closing completely. So I chalked up some experience and we were on our way. I guess this would make a case for carrying a ladder. These pics are from 10 days later staying at Juliette State Park in GA and Hamburg State Park in Ga. Really love the camper and really surprised with the amount of storage. Yes, the air conditioner is loud but 93 degree days were handled with no issues. Spending 20+ years in a power plant loud noise is something I am a little familiar with. After a couple of nights it was no problem even though we are looking forward to fall camping. Erv & Sherry

  28. John another option after prototyping would be a bilge fan. Most are rated to 160F and you could regulate it with a speed control. https://www.amazon.com/Attwood-1731-4-Blower-White-3-Inch/dp/B001O0DE8K/ref=asc_df_B001O0DE8K/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241991498318&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12661622995440900418&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9015850&hvtargid=pla-570309525570&psc=1

  29. Small RV furnaces were never designed to push air from the rear to the front of an RV or around bends. I would start with the furnace fan and determine everything is tight and the fan is running the proper speed. Then add a small prototype fan at the bathroom discharge and see if it closes the sail switch on the furnace. My guess it won’t and if the furnace doesn’t initially detect an open sail switch with thermostat demand it fail out. It kinda has to do that because a stuck sail switch would be bad. Then determine if the new fan helps. Your goal is to just create a small amount of negative pressure to overcome friction and turbulence in the bend. I’d try something like a computer fan in a custom housing.

  30. If any one is interested in watching a space launch. Jetty park is one of the preferred spots. If you don’t mined being a little further away. I suggest The Great Out Doors Rv and golf resort. I lived at the resort for Five years. We were able to view every launch from are back patio. Not up close and personal, but you will see a great view and hear and feel the rumble of the launch. And if for some reason the launch doesn’t happen you still have the amenities golf, pool fishing restaurant etc. may be a bit pricey for some but a very nice resort.

  32. I had the good fortune of being able to watch a mission liftoff several years ago. If you ever have the chance - don't miss it! Even at ten miles away the whole thing is stunning from both a visual and physical perspective. Even watching this SpaceX mission on YouTube brought chills. Perhaps SeaDawg might organize an Oliver Space Rally one of these days? 😃 Bill

  33. Steve, Oliver didn’t install my batteries, so the question is whether I wired them up that way or not. I don’t think I originally did, since I vaguely remember having the question in my mind when putting it all together. But when we had our trailer serviced in Santa Fe on our first trip to fix a few things, something I asked them to do was add some lock washers to the battery connections since I had one that had come loose, and I remember than when I looked at it after that he’d rearranged all my cables. And then I think that last year when I switched the cables into the box from 4/0 to pairs of 2/0 that I just duplicated what was there without thinking. But I think that’s largely irrelevant unfortunately. After charging all night and day I just turned off the power to see what the voltage did and sure enough it fell from 13.6 where it should be to 13.2 within 5 minutes. So even without checking the individual voltages, I’m pretty sure that I’ve got two bad batteries. No other reason for it to fall like that. Questions now are going to be why they failed, is failure common for Battleborns, and how easily/quickly will they get them replaced.
