I suppose if we needed to we could move into our Oliver where it’s parked here at home. Our steel “Ollie Hangar” was put to the ultimate test while we were camped in Yellowstone and it survived the brutal rain and hurricane force winds of Helene… a blessing for sure. As for back up power we installed a 24KW LNG whole house generator and never looked back. There is no better feeling than when the power goes out within 8-10 seconds our full home power is restored. Our generator ran for three days while our county and large parts of Western NC was under a complete outage. Neighbors thought I was over the top having a generator installed. After Helene hit and they lost all their frozen food, frigs and freezers, well they thought it was a genius move. 🤔 Several neighbors now have whole house gens🤷♂️. Keeping up our preventive service of HVAC and our generator is a high priority for us. But yes, things can and do happen. As for bugging out in the Oliver, we live pretty rural and in a small lake community. Leaving our home is more than likely not going to happen. Where we live we are 911, I will leave it at that. 😉😎 With 2.5 years in, I highly recommend if you can swing it in your budget consider a whole house generator, preferably one that runs on LNG. This gen set immediately notifies us anywhere in the US via Mobile link with a txt and email when every it exercises or runs due to a power outage or if it needs maintenance. Stay safe, stay prepped, and stay cool! 😊🇺🇸5 points

Of all the RV designs on the market, I would likely choose the Oliver as a bug-out camper for the same reasons I bought it in the first place. I have also used it to live in while the power was out in our home.5 points

Connor Battlefield SP is a beautiful little park that is fully surrounded within an oxbow of the Tongue River. It is a lovely green oasis with decent sites featuring grilles and tables (no hookups), and the park has restrooms and other amenities. It's First Come First Served (FF) but each day there were a few sites open. I recommend site #4 because it's tucked in a corner with a broad expanse of grass up to the river's edge. There are lots of shady Cottonwood trees. A little gem! If you are looking for a meal on the town, the Tongue River Brewery offers an incredible pizza! https://wyoparks.wyo.gov/index.php/places-to-go/connor-battlefield5 points

Yep! It's not far from home for us and we get over there every chance we can. Getting a reservation is the hard part!4 points

I purchased a 22kW last summer, but currently have it in storage at the COW Barn pending our plan to move to a rural location. The tight housing market has caused a delay, but hopefully that will change soon. My goal is to have an enclosed place to keep the Oliver at a home location and forego the rental facility, which are increasingly expensive in our area.4 points

We filled out the on-line form that @John Dorrer kindly linked. It was just some simple questions. We then received an Email reply from the Center for Disease Control (CDC Dog Import). We entered and exited Canada for a 3 hour visit to White Rock, BC yesterday, and will be going again today! When entering Canada, we declared our dog and they did't ask for anything. When returning to the US, I gave them our passports and my cell phone with the CDC Dog Import email. They looked at the email and said thank you, and let us pass. Thanks again to John!3 points

It looks beautiful, peaceful, and spacious there. Thanks for posting!3 points

Our Honda eu2200 will not run our Truma air at sea level. The overload on the generator trips when the compressor kicks on. As I understand the xantrex 3000 freedom pro, it will prioritize sending ac power to the ac and send less to the charger for instance if the ac input is not great enough to support both (load share). But the Xantrex will not supplement ac loads with battery power as a Victron Multiplus will. I would love to be wrong about this but I think the only way my generator will run our ac is if a soft start is installed.3 points

Our Oliver has been an escape pod for two hurricane evacuations and a winter storm retreat when power was out for several days. Times like these is when our COW (Condo-On-Wheels) and the Westinghouse iGen4500DF are put to good use in survival mode!3 points

This will be a first for us, though common to many of you who have more time for travel. I have 6 weeks off work, for our personal longest camping trip ever. I was inspired by a post our friend Steve @ScubaRx made last year where wrote that he and Tali often travel across country without reservations! This is difficult for the Project Manager in me, but should make for a spontaneous and exciting adventure! First stop just 5 hours from home, we’ll stay 2 nights up at 7760 ft in this beautiful McGaffey Campground SE of Gallup NM.2 points

Please post your experience! We are headed to Glacier, Waterton, Banff, Jasper in about a month 😀2 points

Glad you discovered the problem. Regarding the water filter o-ring, I like to lube it with a small amount of silicone based plumber's grease. It helps with the seal and keeps the o-ring in good shape. Also, don't over tighten the filter screen housing. Firm hand tight is all that is needed. No tools! Cheers, Dave2 points

We passed and waved to another Oliver passing through Thermopolis, Wyoming today (7/13). They were heading south on route 20 and we were just turning on route 120 towards Yellowstone. Spending a couple of weeks west of Cody at Buffalo Bill State Park. You folks have a safe trip!2 points

We left Pincher Creek and then traveled to Banff and beyond. We took a couple of days and nights in a Toyota Land Cruiser- the early Jeep “knockoff”. The route goes up the spine of the Acadian Rockies.2 points

Thanks - I’ll go after it! I did this route out of Glacier National Park many years ago and it was exceptional.2 points

There was a little hiccup getting into the Sheyenne National Grassland. The last 3 miles were dirt and it had been raining everywhere. Given the condition it drove like a single-lane road. Then up ahead were train tracks with a hill to climb to get over them and strange thing was the dirt up at the tracks was muddy black dirt! I was worried in getting over it and since we are running with a 2WD truck, I thought to get a little more speed leading up to it. Wow, first time towing the Oliver we fishtailed at the crest and when the truck went one way, the Oliver went the other. Since I was brought up driving in snow, I gently turned into the direction of the spin and after my heart moved up into my throat for a few seconds, all was good. Whew! The first picture was taken the next morning going the opposite direction. It shows the mud that hit the Oliver, but look behind the Oliver to see the train tracks on the hill and the muddy section. Then look even more closely and you can see the tire skid marks made by the Oliver the evening before! Good thing on the way back it was a soft glide downhill over the tracks. So we're driving an hour north to get to Fargo and as soon as we got on I-29N I said to Chris, "Try to find a truck wash." I was thinking the kind of place that has a tall booth and a pressure-washer, the DIY kind of wash. Turns out it wash a full-service truck wash. This is the best invention! I walked in first to see if they wouldn't mind washing our non-commercial vehicle. Then waited in line for 20 minutes with 18-wheelers fore and aft. Not only the mud on the rear of the truck and the entire Oliver, but after 2400 miles on the road we had bug splatters all over both fronts. I paid to clean both TV and TT with an under-carriage wash. This was the absolute BEST $75 investment I've made for the Oliver! Works well in our budget vs. that $3K CGI detailing. Pics attached of Dirty Ollie and Happy Ollie! 🤣2 points

Just searched for "truck wash" and got lucky. We had no idea! I imagine these are only available in good size cities in warehousing areas along Interstates.1 point

Perhaps we can bump into you along the way! We're thinking 9/22 start to about 10/15. We loved the areas south of Grand Junction (after my Alcan visit), from Ridgway CO down, Sunshine Campground near Telluride, then south along the Delores River ending in Delores CO. Endless boondocking opportunities along the way. During our recent trip we only had a few days in the area, so we want to go back and camp along that route for 3+ weeks! 😂1 point

Thank you for the information I actually have a copy of this but I wasn’t able to pin down my problem by using it.1 point

Use two 7/16" or 11mm open-ended wrenches. Or do what we do. Scrap the old idea of cable, "400 stations and nothing to watch!" 🤣 And who knows what any particular "RV Park" will supply, or if the feed at their post has interference or even works. Stream TV via cellular router or Starlink Mini when cell signals are weak! I removed the cable port on the rear of our Oliver and replaced it with a more useful suitcase solar input!1 point

We have not camped in Alberta, CA… yet. But it appears that there is plenty of camping available. A quick general query on Campspot.com - https://www.campspot.com/c/rv-camping-in-alberta/family-friendly? Here too, we really like the campedium app- https://www.campendium.com/alberta/free-camping1 point

We got to spend a nice week along the Salmon river. On the way home at a gas station I had a guy checking out our Oliver. He comes over and asks to see it. He says “it looks like one of the silver ones”, my first signal he has not looked at trailers much. He asked what they are priced at and I said “they start at 75” to which he said “7,500, that is not to bad” LOL…. I said no not 75 hundred 75 thousand. Clearly not understanding that 7,500 would not get you almost any trailer confirmed that while he can appreciate the Oliver he has no concept of the TT market. 😁1 point

Did you drop Ollie and drive up into Needles? It's AMAZING! GJ1 point

So if you go to Fargo, circle back or stop on the Minnesota side of the river, and visit the Viking ship replica, and the replica stave church (built to look like the Hopperstad church in Norway.) Amazing projects, even if you are not of Scandinavian heritage, like me. The builder of the viking ship never got to launch it, but his kids actually sailed it to Norway. It's truly beautiful. https://www.hcscconline.org/1 point

John...if we meet again at the "Q" next year remind me to tell you of our trip to Dodge back in '18. Will sound very similar to your experience there but we did partake of a meal in a restaurant on main street thinking this should be the best steak ever...NOT! We enjoyed our "western" adventure very much and are glad we traveled there and points beyond! Did you see Lester Moore's tombstone? :) Here lies Lester Moore...4 slugs from a 44...no Les, no more. So we headed north out of Kansas. NE Kansas has some great countryside. We drove through the cute town of Marysville, cobblestone or brick streets throughout the downtown area and it appears they area is known for black squirrels. They must have 100 of these squirrel statues, on every block! We got to Lincoln Nebraska by late morning and played pickleball at Peterson Park. There were 10 courts and a lot of local players. None at our level though, so Chris and I played Skinny Singles. as the locals were thinking, who is this old couple! We started playing tennis together 34 years ago and are usually pretty even in competition. It was Chris' day (and her birthday week) so she won 2 of 3 very close games.1 point

Next we were heading to Dodge City Kansas. Being lifelong fans of Gunsmoke we had to see the town, even though the TV show was recorded outside of Kanab Utah! We found a city park with good reviews on Campendium, Davis Park in the nearby town of Greensburg KS. There was no charge to stay and 20A electrical hookups, fresh water adjacent to the baseball field. We stayed a couple nights so we could do a day trip to Dodge. We're generally not museum-goers but made an exception to visit the Boot Hill Museum, where they presented the real history of Dodge all the guns of the day and had the Gunsmoke city-scape with a walk-in Long Branch where you could order a whiskey and set a spell! We visited Dodge and then got the heck "outta Dodge." A bit too much in feed lots and meat processing plants for our taste. We thought not to eat a steak or even a burger in this town! What a shame. The real treasure was Kook's Meats in Greensburg, run by Andy and Georgina Kook (for short)! They cut us a few ribeye steaks to go and you got to get the blueberry cream cake! Had breakfast there the next morning too and what a huge muffin sandwich or breakfast burrito for only $5.25! The first night was perfect! The air was calm, perfect jeans and T-shirt weather and not a bug to bother us, bare feet in the soft trimmed grass. The second night a major plains thunderstorm came through. We were packed and hitched in case we had to get cover which was in a truck wash building just across the street (see last pic), but all that happened were heavy rains (a first for us in our Oliver). Next time I'll close my window, woke up to some wet bedding the next morning but all was good!1 point

We saw two Oliver Elite II's at Table Rock Lake campground in Missouri. Driving there, we talked about the fact we had only seen one since we bought ours in August of 2023. BTW - If you are around TRL or Branson you have to eat at College of the Ozarks. The food is fantastic and the service was great. Kids work at a number of different things there to pay for tuition, room and board. https://www.keetercenter.edu/Dine/Dining/Menu1 point

I throw a greeting out to whoever I saw this morning up in the texas panhandle headed north. I was on my last day of the return trip from alaska back to san antonio. This trip I've seen my first 2 "wild" Ollie's. One out on the Homer spit a couple months ago and the one today. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi I think it was hull 747 or 757 I don't recall but we tent camped for a night on the spit just to say we did but the wind was so brutal that night we were hunkered down.1 point

Hello to the Oliver I spotted on September 9th, heading west on I-90 toward Spearfish SD -- I was heading east. I've been on the road for five months and this was the first Oliver I've seen this year!1 point

Actually, Patriot saw an Ollie! And, it was me! On Monday (August 26) I was headed east on Interstate 70 (just east of Jefferson City, Missouri) when I got a rather excited call from David and Kathy. They were headed west on Interstate 70 and spotted me going the other way! Unfortunately, at the moment we passed each other I was getting a message on my dashboard that the Ollie had become disconnected. Thankfully this message was only due to a small pebble causing the electrical connection between the truck and Ollie to become unstable. Thanks to both of them for making my day! Bill1 point

Hello to the LE2 with green/yellow livery we saw westbound on I-90 near Utica, NY this afternoon!1 point

Nice! I know of that route. I was not sure if it was a road for 4x4s, or instead a road where you could tow your Oliver all the way down. I'm assuming you pulled your Oliver down to the Colorado! Please confirm quality of the road. Is it some paved, all dirt, OK for towing? Ample level boondocking sites at the river? That's a local trip for us, so we should do it soon. BTW, I can't stand I-40 from Flagstaff to Kingman, the trucks at 75 MPH, steep descents, construction always and bad pavement regardless. I found on this trip that we can get from home to Kingman, a trip I do several times a year, only traveling on I-40 for 7 miles. We take US-89 from Prescott to Ash Fork AZ (47 miles from home) and 7 miles west of Ash Fork you can exit on Hwy-66 and take that to Seligman, up to Peach Springs and down to Kingman. It's a beautiful route too and only adds a half hour to the route.1 point

John, Thanks for the invite. We drove down Peach Springs Canyon to the Colorado River on the Grand Canyon. We spent all day lounging by the Colorado River. Next morning we headed to Mojave Desert. Allen1 point

We spotted an Oliver yesterday on I-40 going westbound near Tucumcari, NM connected to a white pickup... any clues who they may have been? Staying at a HH near Palo Dura canyon and headed to FT Smith, AR this morning, we'll be on the look out for OTTs! Cheers!1 point

Turns out he is a Georgia boy living in North Carolina. Super nice folks. He is a long time Ollie owner and active camper. I learned a lot from our short conversation. I suspect that is just a taste of what we might learn at the owners rally.1 point
