Oliver makes great products and obviously values supporting a healthy community where owners and interested parties can ask and answer questions, share ideas and otherwise communicate. A big thank you and high marks to the administrators and moderators for keeping the forum on a positive path. Both of these roles can be difficult and often times thankless, but in my opinion are being done consistently well here.10 points

Pick up day was long... I am currently camped at Davey Crockett Park. Yesterday I drove from Austin and stayed in a VRBO near Henderson. Drove to Hohenwald this morning and took a factory tour this morning. Lunch in Hohenwald at Southern Skillet, and then back to the Sales and Service office for payment, and walk-through. Walk-through took a little more than 3 hours. I left the Oliver Sales and Service facility at 4:30. I made a quick stop at the local auto parts store and I drove a portion of the Natchez Trace to the Davey Crocket park. Beautiful drive. Arrived at the park after dark, and in the rain. I have a truck full of stuff for the trailer, but I have all day tomorrow to get settled in. For now, I have electricity. I am warm and dry. And thankful.6 points

For what it is worth, I bought a Ford F-250, XLT 2019 model. In doing my research I found a huge price difference between the XLT and their top of the line model. A few options brings the XLT up to a very well equipped vehicle for a reasonable cost. I found a 6.7 diesel with the suspension upgrades and nice trim options I wanted...and even preferred over the top of the line models. You can add the chrome upgrade option, trailer towing package, 4 door, bucket seats, large nav screen, and a number of other features and still be 20,000 under the top of the line models. one thing to also consider by going to the 3/4 ton, is the heavy brakes, shocks, springs, transmission, axle, etc. that will give you years of added use over a 1/2 ton. I have averaged 19 - 20 mpg without the Oliver and 14 - 15 mpg with the Oliver. Yes routine maintenance is higher for the diesel, but also is the resale. I could not be more pleased with my Ford F 250. Steve R.4 points

I’m continually amazed at the knowledge and expertise of members on this forum. It’s nice to know I can come with an issue and get lots of relevant input. I wonder what a rally with 5,000 would look like! Mike4 points

I am pleased to report that hull #735 has been launched. Elite 1 (shorty). Pics to follow. Wife and I are from Austin, TX. We are first-time RVers. Looking to see our country from a different perspective. We would love to meet other Oliver owners on the road. We have already benefitted so much from this forum and the generous members of this community. Thank you to all of you in this community who have helped us get to this point. I am grateful for your advice, expertise, and inspiration. @Mike and Carol (fellow Texans) recommended a place to stay on our journey back to TX;@SeaDawg is the preeminent expert on the Shortys and always generous sharing their experience; @John E Davies is resident expert and @BackofBeyond helped me with my Tow vehicle issues; @Ray and Susan Huff@SherMica you have provided much inspiration. I have relied on contributions from @Overland @ScubaRx@topgun2@Landrover and so many others. THANK YOU! Bill3 points

A reason to celebrate, and also a reason to be cautious. This forum has been great for support and ideas. But considering that there are only something over 700 Oliver trailers out there now, a number that big of 5,000 forum members means actual Oliver owners are the minority, with the rest made up of future owners with orders pending (another 100-200?), plus those with a future interest in possibly buying, and also internet trolls and spammers as well. Even assuming all 700 or so current owners are registered here and double it for couples, so call it 1,400, owners are still the minority. And as it gets bigger it will get even more attention on the internet. So be careful about your posts and avoid including personal info such as phone number and e-mail addresses. Even posting your whereabouts in real time when traveling is a risk. I'm even starting to think that listing a hull number might be a bad idea as we've seen a recent example of a bogus RV Trader ad with a real hull number and contact info of a forum member here. But enough ranting. 🙂 A BIG thank you to the moderators on here for keeping the problems to a minimum.3 points

Look at a LowPro LockDown. http://lowprolockdown.com/ I don’t have one yet but this is what another forum member uses and it looks like the best solution to me.3 points

I am leaning to the F-250 with the 7.3l gas engine because of lower maintenance than a diesel, ample torque at 1500 rpm and can be had for around 57k . The EPA regulations have killed the diesels unless you want to go the “deleted” route.3 points
-
Our neighbor asked if I wanted to test drive his F-250 with 6.7L diesel & 10,000 miles. Debbie & I tested it on back roads and highway today. Handles great, supple ride, not too soft or harsh, plenty of power, and quiet, too. Can only imagine if we were towing Ollie, how we would need to check to be sure Ollie was connected. What a nice tow vehicle!2 points
-
This made me smile.... I pre-dry “Mouse” by firing up my gas blower, followed by a wipe down with cotton towels. The first time I did it the new neighbor kid was totally freaked out when he saw me clinging to the step ladder with one hand and blasting the water off the roof and solar panels with the other. It does work pretty well! I also bring it along on trips where dusty roads might be encountered, to blast the dust off the trailer sides and back, and the truck. It looks better then, and if it should rain, it won’t look so diseased with spots. The blower is also great for clearing needles and leaves from the ground at the site, way better than a broom or rake. John Davies Spokane WA2 points

And yeah, I've also put a squeegee in the bathroom. It's what we use at home after showers as well to do the bulk of the cleaning. Using liquid soap versus bars also helps a LOT with preventing soap scum buildup btw. A tip I learned from a tile guy.2 points

I too thought that the time between placing my order and actually picking up my Oliver would drag. However, in hind sight, it is really surprising how quickly this time passed. Perhaps it was that last few days before delivery that was actually the worst in that there is concern about the weather in addition to wondering what to expect and the "do I have everything I will need" questions. I wasn't fully prepared for the amount of activity and the depth of coverage that I received on delivery day. Thoughts that I would surely take notes and/or remember all that I was told quickly disappeared in the excitement and joy. At least now (five years later) there are even more experienced owners here and, of course, the Oliver University to help. Bill2 points
-
Congratulations! Lots to read and learn on the forums. Ask questions, I have found folks here are happy to share their wealth of knowledge. The videos in Oliver University are great to get you familiar with the trailer and components. Your pick up date will be here before you know it as the time will pass quickly while you are researching and buying stuff for your new trailer. We pick up in 10 more days. Cannot wait to get back to camping after being trailer-less for the last 5 months. Cindy2 points

That is all very good advice. Our administration have been a big help in spa m control, as well, from a software controls standpoint. I'll add a big thanks here to jason and Matt, too. I would note that the scam posting of an Oliver hull # was a cut and paste of the original owner's old ad.2 points
-
Bill - Amazing - isn't it? Just how can the "simple act" of picking up a camper take the entire day? Before I got my Oliver, the other campers I bought maybe took 2 hours (tops) to get delivered. Glad to hear that all went well and that you are now setting about the chore of actually moving in. At least you are warm and dry and (hopefully) rested. Let us know if we can help! Bill2 points
-
One with the curtain and one without - sounds to me like this is a question for an Oliver Sales Rep. Personally, I'm in the "Huff" camp - I don't have a curtain because what little that gets wet is simply too easy to clean and dry versus dealing with a curtain that is there all the time. Space is really precious in the bathroom. Bill2 points

I echo what SeaDawg says and add a thanks to those that help the Moderators by reporting Spam and other issues with our Forum. This really does make our jobs easier. Bill2 points

This is a LOCKED thread. I wanted to put all my links in one spot so that they are easy for folks to find. Search remains a real problem with this forum! This thread does not allow comments. If you have questions, find a dead link or just want to talk, you can comment on the appropriate thread, or start a new thread or just Message me. I will add to this page as I start new threads, so hopefully it will continue to be a good up-to-date reference. NEWEST POSTS ARE AT THE TOP. I am not going to bother to alphabetize them, LOL. I put a link to this page in my signature, so you can get here directly from any of my comments. The facebook page hasn't been updated in ages. http://perfectcasita.com/ was updated in early 2019 but the e-commerce pages are broken on both http://perfectcasita.com/ and http://lowprolockdown.com Really cool product. Maybe the 2020 RV madness will open them back up for business. (469) 312-1222 if anyone wants to give their listed number a try.1 point

Oh, no! Running boards are really great, though I wish I had power ones that concealed. For my birthday, a year ago, Paul installed aftermarket running boards on my Silverado to make it easier for my mom. She loves them.1 point

Ghost - Nice! I really like that chrome on the sides of the body. Be a bit careful in using those running boards though. And, never put tire dressing or "protectorant" type fluids on them - don't ask me how I know this 🤪. Bill1 point

Very nice Steve, Congratulations!! I took delivery of my 6.7 Tremor back on Sept 1st and now have a whopping 4440 miles logged. So far we are very happy with the comfort level and highway visibility with the higher lifted Tremor pkg and how extremely quiet our cab interior is. I have since added an ARE Z topper, (5) custom Fuel wheels and (5) Nitto Ridge Grapplers and XPEL paint protection. I have found that the Nitto’s are a much quieter tire than the OE Duratracs. I did my first oil change the other day adding Schaeffer 5W40 full synthetic, yep 13 quarts. Extremely easy the way the oil pan and filter are configured. In the event you decide to do you own oil changes or just want to carry a spare fuel, air or oil filter, here -http://Dieselfiltersonline.com I have an account with Schaeffer oil and they ship a case to my door step within three days. Here is more info about the oil I use. https://www.schaefferoil.com/documents/244-9000-td.pdf Hope this helps! Enjoy that sharp new Super Duty!1 point

🙄 I am not happy about your method, not unless your goal is to cultivate a lot of bacteria. Even when used on a car, it should be washed afterwards. Since it will inevitably pick up some grit that will damage the finish, I gave up on this way of drying cars twenty years ago. I was seeing too many fine scratches. In the shower I use an old cotton hand towel after first using a Water Blade (which stores overhead). The towel hangs to dry and gets washed at the next opportunity. For my cars I do the same but I use 100% cotton bar towels, one time, then into a bucket, then when the bucket it is full, into the wash. Your gel coat is quite soft and easy to scratch, so you need to be aware of any material that could mar it. These ... Zeppoli Auto Shop & Car Wash Towels - 36 Pack - 100% Pure White Cotton ... work great, but they take a few washes before they become super absorbent. They are also great for general Ollie cleaning. Thanks for the feedback. I will ask Phil Andrews about the shower curtain - when I posted the question last night I had a feeling that at some point in time I heard or read that the track came equipped with a curtain. I'm not trusting my memory as much as I used to.1 point

Congratulations! We are also from Texas and will be picking up our Ollie II on 2/15. There have been a lot of posts from fellow Texans in the past few months who have either just picked up or just placed orders. We camp a lot in the Texas State Parks and Corp of Engineers Parks and hope to meet other Oliver owners in the future. Looking forward to more posts about how pick up and your stay at DCSP goes. I've been lurking around these boards for a few months, and am thrilled to announce that we have put our deposit down on a Elite II Twin model. It'll be a model year 2022, with a delivery date of 11/29/21. Can't wait...now to pick out a truck color! MaryBeth1 point

A lack of semiconductors worldwide is affecting a wide swath of producers in many industries. Current lead times for parts can be as much as a year, bringing assembly lines to a halt. This is partially due to Covid's disruption of the workforce, combined with shortages of critical elements. We can expect a bumpy road in manufacturing for a while yet. https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/nissan-latest-suspend-production-due-semi-shortage1 point

I was really tempted by F250 but I didn’t need it and it won’t fit in my garage. I can just get my F150 to fit. Maybe down the road when I spend weeks at a time out I might consider 3/4.1 point

Congrats from a fellow Texan! I am in DFW and pickup in May. I lived in Austin years ago when I went to UT. I visit when I can as it is a great place . Good luck !1 point

Perhaps another reason why the F150 has been and is the best selling truck. I've had two of these now and both were/are very nice. If I had the need and garage room I'd give serious consideration to a 3/4 ton though. Bill1 point

Welcome and enjoy the time you have to read and research all the great information in Oliver University. The more you read and learn the easier it will be in your first few weeks. There have been changes over the years to Ollies, and that up dated info is in Oliver U. The videos are very helpful as well. Dive in! It will greatly assist you on delivery day and beyond. It will be here before you know it! ☕️1 point

I turned the shades on our 2020 Oliver a short time ago and did not have any loose clips (22 for 22 were snug). This may have been something OTT became aware of through the owners and improved. At least I hope so. 🙂1 point

A falling branch wiped out our backup camera antenna recently. I found this replacement at etrailer.com (p/n PXXHD0006301R fits camera model WVCMS130AP, $21 plus tax and S/H). First experience with that site, fully satisfied with their prompt shipping and protective packaging. Hoping this info may help someone. - Brian1 point

When I worked building interactive computer based museum exhibits, I quickly learned that when the phone call came, the first thing to check was "is it still plugged in?" 🙂 I boiled that and a few other helpful reminders of stupid things to check first when customers call into the observation "You can't fix it if it's not broken!"1 point

Also, important safety tip: when "bumping" the shade back onto the clips make sure none of your fingers is behind the frame. It's a rather painful experience!1 point

Having lived in ON, IL, PA, IA, FL and now NC. I have experienced huge differences on tax pressure among them. The services provided argument, is relative, as I usually are not on the receiving end... it just boils down to how wasteful you local politicians are with your money....so far IL the worse.1 point

I am up at oh dark thirty and humidity in cabin is 76%, so running main fan and bathroom fan and plugin dehumidifier. Meanwhile, interesting news: walked the loop here at campground (dog) at 3:30 AM admiring all the various RVs. Look up in the dark and did a double and triple take. 18 spaces down from me, someone in an Elite II. I am going to take a chance and leave a post-it on their site, as visibly and securely placed as possible, before I leave early this AM to tow into town on impt business, with my first name and cell (which is not working well for incoming calls - keeps going to vm) for texting me, in the hope that this/these fellow Ollie owner/s is/are staying here even just tonight. If nothing else we should say hi, right? I have no idea what year this Elite II is. But it certainly stands out in a row of primarily motorhomes and a couple of trailers. I said to myself as I walked up on it in the dark, “It has to be a mirage. What are the odds?”1 point

I used to build computers. “Baling wire and chewing gum.” You either get that joke or you don’t. Also, tech support level 1: “Did you try rebooting?” Grr.1 point

Carl - I'd like to add to your plus points for the Andersen by saying that the Andersen will also greatly help to reduce "porpoising" (i.e. that bouncing that occurs when towing over something like the expansion joints on the interstate). I believe that this is particularly so when towing with relative lighter weight vehicles. Bill p.s. Congratulations on actually joining the family - it really is nice to have you with us. October will be here before you know it and that is a great month for getting to know your new Ollie.1 point

I have the 2020 Chev 2500HD, z71 4x4, w/Duramax and 10 spd trans. The truck’s drawbacks to me are: rigid ride but only over things like speed bumps and pot holes (Z71 off-road suspension), large hood presence makes for tighter forward view than i like, cooled seats need more cooling umph, and the rear seat climate controls and vents are too limited. The positives, in my opion are many and excellent. The diesel is smooth, powerful and quiet, especially at cruising speeds. The steering feel and responsiveness is calibrated very well, as is the way the vehicle tracks on the road. The ride is very smooth. The technology, though not the latest in some respects works. The multiple camera views work great. The payload and towing #s are excellent with a lot of margin. I’m not saying that the gas options wont get the job done, but having towed and hauled with both gas and diesel, when it comes to getting the vehicle that will have no issues with any of it, i’m guessing you’d be quite happy with any of the big 3’s HD (diesel) options. They are all amazing. Besides all the great features on all these trucks, for me it came down to loving the look of the Chevy grill (seriously), the recent major updates to the Duramax engine, the 10 sp trans, and how planted and correctly calibrated it feels at the steering wheel.1 point

Nicole - Good to have you here and thanks for posting. I believe that you are looking for a 3/4 ton truck. All of the 1/2 ton trucks currently on the market require a weight distribution hitch when towing something like the Oliver Legacy Elite II. I have tried to make my Oliver sway without success and I've never heard of even one instance where any Oliver trailer swayed due to wind, passing semi's or any other circumstance. I happen to own a 2017 Ford 150 and, yes, I do have and use the Andersen. My truck has the 3.5 liter Ecoboost engine with the max trailer towing package. This truck gets in the low 20's mpg while not towing and averages between 12 and 13 mpg while towing. I have towed my Elite II through out the mountain west and have never experience any trouble with any grade under any circumstance. Hope this helps. Bill1 point

RB, I think what you may find interesting is the farm market, the guys who haul big cattle trailers and such, is trending away from the diesels and opting for the large displacement gas engines due to lower costs. There are a lot trending to the F250 with the 7.3 gasser.1 point
