LOVED the Black Hills! I must learn what makes the stone black. Need to make another trip here to get deeper into the hills. Rapid City though is certainly a tourist-trap but Mt. Rushmore makes it all worth it. What a wonderful celebration of America! Chris and I have wanted to come here all of our lives. We had a great FS site booked just 10 minutes away, but it got into the 90s and needed electric to run the A/C. While eating donuts in our truck at Wall, I made a same-day reservation at Holy Smoke Resort just north of Keystone. It all worked out. We waited 'til after 5PM due to the heat and then hiked the Presidential Trail. We really wanted to see the night ceremonies but during June they start late at 9PM. So we went to dinner at the Powder House Lodge and returned just before nine. It was great, Bison Filet for Chris and Bison Stew for me, yum! Both the daylight and nighttime visits to Mt. Rushmore were something we will always remember. They ended with a salute to our Veterans, who were called on stage and the rest of us were clapping loudly, for a long, long time. Yes, thank you to our Vets! 😂3 points

I tried to measure pre and post install based on height of the wheel well trim from the ground. It was less than a half inch in difference on my trailer. I spoke with Lew for awhile when I was there a few weeks ago and he thought he had upgraded close to a hundred trailers now. As others have reported, they were pleasant to deal with and did good work. Lew said my springs had flattened and were "shot." He also said the bushings were badly worn and emphasized that I now have brass bushings along with the heavy duty shackles. Two of my shocks were blown (which I already knew) so they installed 4 new ones that I brought with me. I decided to "spring" (haha) for the new 5200 axles as well so my wallet was way lighter but my piece-of-mind was way higher! Just returned from a trip to Flaming Gorge/Green River, Utah and it performed great over the nearly 1k miles round-trip. We returned through Northern CO where the two-lane highway has quite a bit of freeze/thaw damage and heave so I was sure glad I had it done. I do notice that it is more stout. The "waddle" over angled railroad tracks or curb that @jd1923 mentioned is definitely less.3 points

Enjoying our mid morning coffee and cool weather in Montrose, Colorado at River Bend RV Park. Still meandering westward. A couple of days ago we visited The Garden of the Gods outside of Colorado Springs and saw an Oliver from Florida in the parking lot. After our park visit we waited but unfortunately we didn’t get to see the owners. River Bend in Montrose, CO3 points

A week has gone by and we're stayed at so many great places in SD and WY! Badlands NP: liked the ease of entering from the east, exiting west after seeing the sights right at Wall SD. It's so stark, its topography is certainly out-of-place! Honestly, I was a little disappointed, not our favorite place in SW SD. Those who love this place, please do not get upset with me, but I believe if the same range of barren hills was somewhere in the middle of Arizona, it would not make the Top-10 list. It's just were it is located that is freakish! I posted pics in Where's Ollie? and I saw an Ollie threads so will skip those here. We boondocked the wall at Buffalo Gap National Grassland. It was pretty cool. Good that they have changed the rules that you must disperse camp at designated sites. Must have been a zoo prior to that. Still not everybody abides by rules! Somebody towing a 5th-wheel, tandem-towing another trailer with a SxS, came in after 11PM and camped right below us on our designated site. Who are these ________ who arrive at campsites after dark? Then he had the gall to run a friggin' generator all night long! I used to have a temper and too bad I'd get in trouble if firing a warning shot! We left late by noon, since it was going to be in the 90s that day and and it was somewhat cool in the wind on the ridge. Headed to Wall Drug, got in and out quickly. Here are the important pics. Their cake donuts are truly great! They only got us for a half dozen, no t-shirts or other nonsense, and two free water!2 points

Manti - La Sal National Forest, Devils Canyon CG, Utah...45 degrees this AM (furnace on) woohoo! Spending the night in a hotel in Moab for 41st wedding anniversary and doing the tourist thing. We tackled some awfully wicked hiking trails today in Canyonlands NP and will need some time to recover tonight. John1 point

Wow, I skipped the word ‘June’ when reading, focusing on the picture! Our trip was June too, fog where I could only see at most 30 yards ahead!1 point

We stayed there 20+ years ago in a rental RV. It was beautiful (as was the entire Oregon coast). Please provide a trip report on Cape Lookout, as we are planning to visit again next year in the Ollie.1 point

June 1996 we stayed in a cabin at 10K ft on the Salida side. Chris and I had headaches the whole week not being used to altitude at the time. Drove to Gunnison one morning, fog on the pass, was quite scary. Would not want to be there during winter like Mike! We didn’t make it as far as the Black Canyon, but should make up for that Thursday of this week! 😂 Joe & Mindy, not sure which direction you’re traveling, but there will be two Olivers at Riverbend RV Montrose Wed-Thu this week. One will be there much longer, the retired guy with his better half!1 point

After the day at Devils Tower we road into our campsite and there she was, another Ollie! Only the second time for us, not counting the Q or Texas Rally and there was a 3rd time, but they left early morning without us meeting. Both times the Oliver owner was named Gary. The First time it was Gary from CO at Lost Dutchman and yesterday it was Gary from Harrisburg PA in Hull # 833! Gary wanted to check out my Epoch installation. He has 4-year-old AGMs not holding charge like they used to. I believe we've heard that story before! 🤣1 point

I apologize for chiming in late but just got home last night from a 10 day round trip from Oregon to Saddlestring, Wyoming towing our LE II. The discussion above omitted a very relevant specification when determining safe towing weight limits which is Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). I believe the GCWR for your Tundra is 11,800 lbs. If you were to pull the the maximum trailer weight of 6,700 lbs, that would leave 5,200 lbs of remaining GCWR to work with for tow vehicle plus cargo weight. I believe the curb weight of your Tundra is about 4,800 lbs so if you tried to tow an LE II at 6,700 lbs, you would only have about 400 lbs of cargo capacity. If you were to keep the weight of the LE II at or below 5,700 lbs with full water and propane tanks, it would leave you with about 1,400 lbs of cargo capacity. In my opinion, this would allow you the flexibility to tow an LE II safely with your Tundra until you find (or can afford) the tow vehicle you really want. You would just need to be very disciplined in traveling light in terms of passengers/cargo until you do. I have pulled our LE II for 5 years now with the 4.7 liter engine. I find it to be marginal but adequate for my needs, but then I am a minimalist, the kids are grown up and gone, and we typically depart with the LE II at 5,600 lbs or less with a full water tank. That said, I do want a more capable tow vehicle but am waiting for the next evolution of EV batteries (e.g., solid state) to arrive.1 point

Hello this is my first post! I am removing the Dometic AC that came with my 2021 LE 2. I bought a Pioneer Inverter AC/Heat Pump 13,500 BTU. Any tips on removal and installation will be gratefully accepted!1 point

I'll be picking one up for sure as soon as I see the price drop a little. I really should have picked one up when they were in the $1,200 dollar range based on the inverter technology alone... One thing for certain, the second I buy one another even more efficient one will hit the market!1 point

Geoff, good post. I learned the lock picking skill exactly for that reason. It's is not difficult to learn and there are several pick kits and gadgets out there to make it very simple. My go-to set is inside my F150 side pocket, which is accessible even if my truck's key fob is locked inside the trailer. Thanks for bringing this up on the thread.1 point

Yep - the challenge was finding a piece of material the right size and shape - made out of a material that the tape would stick to. Since I don’t have any kind of “shop” to work in, I’ve been roaming the aisles at the hardware store hoping to find something. So far, the only one I’ve found was too “greasy” to hold the tape. The quest continues…1 point

Haven't driven this road in quite a few years but when we last did it was a very slow go so if you decide to do this pack your patience with you. We were not towing at the time, just car camping with tents. In most areas it tends to be a near bumper to bumper experience with many small towns communities along the way. Think stop and go traffic and driving. It is a very pretty drive if you have the time and patience. At the time we were there the campgrounds were very packed and very crowded along the way, almost claustrophobic at times, and no doubt much more so now by any measure. Since 101 is on the Pacific coast even in the summer months it can be considerably cooler than you might imagine, pack accordingly. There are a lot of nifty little towns along the way and depending upon what you are looking to do it could be a pleasant trip. Just don't be in a hurry. Good luck.1 point

When I picked up my New Ollie LE 2 in 2021 the Remote Panel wasn't working. I called Xantrex many times and installed a new Remote panel and Cable all to no avail. I gave up. The Inverter charger always worked but checking settings was a Yoga Class! So last week I had some time and called Xantrex. The Rep read my notes from previous calls on her computor. Talked to her manager and they sent a new XC 3000. It was the communication board on the old one that was faulty. I installed it and everything is working fine now!!! Just wanted to put a thank you here to both Oliver and Xantrex Tech. They really went the extra mile for me.1 point

Doughton Park NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We head to the BRP to beat the heat this time of year. After the hurricane last year, many areas are still closed, but repairs are being made and areas slowing reopening. No electricity or water at the campsites but Ollie handles it fine with a portable solar panel. Directions to Doughton Park, take Rt. 21 to the BRP to the Park. Cort: Nancy and I in Boulder City, Nevada will be leaving here and passing through Flagstaff around noon or so. Heading east. If you have not resolved your Leaf Spring problem, as you know I travel with a lot of tools in the event... like yours. Nancy is checking to see if she can find your cell number, but you may have it. Will be towing the 2019 Oliver Elite... so easy to see Off the Grid, as well. Nancy did not have your cell number and have no way to contact you, otherwise. You met our Cattle Dogs and we can figure out if you need help, or not. Once we leave here, we are pretty much Off the Grid. Ray1 point

We were visiting Garden of the Gods just outside of Colorado Springs today and an Oliver from Florida pulled in to the parking lot. After we finished exploring we waited in our truck for about a half an hour and had to leave. Hope you’re having a great trip!1 point

A belated Hello to the Oliver who passed me heading west towards Craters of the Moon National Monument, on Sunday 6/15. Idaho plates, I believe — it’s my first time in Idaho and it’s been lovely touring, hiking and soaking in the hot springs on my loop through the Sawtooth Mountains.1 point

Hope you enjoy the "wall" right outside of Wall (SD). The views (particularly at dawn and dusk) are spectacular! Hopefully it is not too crowded there such that you don't get a spot right on the rim. Bill1 point

Chris noticed an Ollie coming out of the east entrance of Badlands National Park, as we were entering today at 11:30 AM MDT. I was following a commercial truck and a row of slow-moving vehicles so I did not see her coming. And yes as soon as she said it, there was an Ollie in my sideview mirror as she passed by quickly. Too bad we could not meet up! Our second roadside Oliver sighting to date without meeting the other Oliver Owners, too bad! We're boondocking on the Badlands Wall tonight and on our way out of this amazing NP, I took these pics! 😂1 point

@jdmmtx, I'll try to explain it better if I can. First of all, I didn't install my solar switch as was suggested, it was installed by Oliver during manufacturing. There were NEC and local codes that required solar switches, but i don't know where that stands now or why Oliver apparently stopped installing them. Regardless, it’s still a reasonable safety feature, because with no sun the system can test completely dead. Then surprise when the sun comes out! The solar wire is not as obvious, or as easy to find and disconnect as the battery, so a switch is a good idea and easy to install. Also, it’s nice to be able to switch off the solar to avoid low voltage warnings such as @Tony and Rhonda were experiencing when they started this thread. But I wouldn't worry a second if I did't have one! The battery is more straight forward. A switch wasn't required by code, and the manufacture didn’t install one. A switch isn’t needed for modifications because it’s best to disconnect the battery. There are few credible or realistic scenarios where a battery switch would prevent disaster. The most persuasive reason is to disconnect the parasite loads during storage as you stated. But you can do that without a battery switch as I’ve previously explained, and you won’t be inadvertently de-energizing the emergency breakaway brakes… which is a code violation. Yet there is nothing wrong with adding a main battery switch if you want to. Just don’t be coerced into it by safety concerns, and make sure you maintain “un-switched” constant power to the breakaway brakes. Also understand and consider what safety features already exist in your trailer. For example; my Lithionics BMS has short circuit protection, overcurrent shutoff, high voltage, etc.. The batteries also have power switches that disconnect power to the terminals, and there is a 300 amp breaker already in the battery circuit. Adding a battery switch would be totally redundant and completely un-necessary! Oliver and their liability insurance obviously knew that too! I hope this will help folks be better informed to make the right decision for themselves. Cheers, Geoff1 point

They definitely look identical, but what is interesting is that the Pioneer has a 3 year warranty while the Turbro only has 1.1 point

I'd guess you are pioneering the Pioneer install. Yes, it looks identical to the Gree/Turbro Greenland. I think you will enjoy the energy savings and quiet of an inverter compressor ac. Glad to see they are FINALLY becoming available here in the USA. The biggest challenge in our swap from the Dometic Dinosaur unit to our littler Hougton was getting units off, and on the roof. We used 3 people, safety ropes,,and two ladders. Used carpet, upside down, to slide the new unit forward, after getting it to the top. Install on our Houghton was pretty straightforward. All these are set for the standard 14 x 14 approximate openening. We did have to fare out the opening a bit of some jagged edges. I'll bet you find the same. Have you seen the install manual? Is it possible to connect the condensate line? We could not with our houghton. Are you planning to resell the dometic you remove?1 point

This new thread is a spinoff from the Door Lock Problems thread. I mentioned the issue with the Xantrex inverter to commiserate with the poster who had the door lock issue. So, here's the issue with the Xantrex Freedom XC Pro 3000 watt inverter: it inverts as expected with loads up to 1100 watts (like the Truma air conditioner), but loads like the 1500 watt microwave cause a low-voltage shutdown after a few seconds (sometimes) or a few minutes (at other times). This seems to be affected by battery state of charge. Voltage drop when under load is normal; I am advised that a 0.4V to 0.5V drop under large inverter loads is normal. But our 3000 watt inverter shows voltage drops from 0.9V to 1.1V when a 1500 watt load is engaged. If, for example, the voltage reported on the Seelevel monitor is 13.1V, engaging a 1500 watt load will cause an immediate drop down to 12.4V on the Xantrex display, then less than a minute later, down to 12.2, then 12.1 and finally 12.0 in less than 3 minutes. The inverter then does a low-voltage shutdown. This limitation makes the microwave unusable on inverted power at State of Charge levels below 75%. With lots of responsive help from Jason Essary, I have been troubleshooting first the DC side, then the 120V AC side of the trailer wiring. I have found no loose connections which may cause the unexplained DC voltage drop. This included removing the 300A Optifuse breaker from the DC side (by placing both the lug from the battery and the lug to the inverter on the input side of the Optifuse breaker. That produced only a 0.1V improvement in DC voltage drop with a 1500 watt load. A post by Tom and Doreen on the Door Lock Problems thread suggested the source of the voltage drop could be the Optifuse breaker, and that Lithionics specifies a different breaker, which may have a much lower resistance specification. Is anyone else with the 3000 watt inverter having this issue when using the microwave on inverted power? What 300A breaker does Lithionics specify? Could that be the answer?1 point
